Move over sugary beverages! A slimming summer drink that hydrates, tastes amazing and has health- and complexion-enhancing ingredients to boot? We’re in…
When regular H2O feels boring, try this water with oomph created by Alexis Wolfer, author of The Recipe For Radiance: Discover Beauty’s Best-Kept Secrets In Your Kitchen. Sip two to three cups per day on a relatively empty stomach – like after a workout or when you’ve spent the day outside – to get these fantastic natural benefits, says Wolfer.
Summer Drink: Mint-Ginger-Green Tea Lemonade
4 cups water, divided
4 bags green tea
1/2 cup fresh mint leaves, chopped and tightly packed
⅓ cup fresh ginger, chopped
⅓ cup fresh lemon juice
Bring two cups of water to the boil, then reduce to a simmer. Add tea bags, mint and ginger and let them steep for 30 minutes. Strain into a large pitcher, pressing solids to extract remaining liquid. Add lemon juice and remaining water. Refrigerate until chilled. Garnish with lemon slices, if desired, and serve over ice.
It’s high in vitamin C, which your body uses to make collagen, helping to maintain the health of your skin. It may also strengthen your immune system, says dietician Dr Gayl Canfield.
A cooling effect helps tame facial redness by lowering your body temp, says Wolfer. Dermatologist Dr Francesca Fusco adds: “Mint, as aromatherapy, could help reduce stress-induced acne and eczema.”
This zingy root has anti-inflammatory properties to help ease overheated, irritated skin from the inside out, notes Wolfer. And studies have shown that ginger root can soothe stomach discomfort.
Its antioxidants help prevent heart disease and reduce inflammation, says Canfield. Get Qi Organic China Green Tea at Faithful To Nature.
